About the firm

The person who prepares you for scrutiny
practiced scrutiny for a living.

Provenance Advisory Group exists to do one job: make owner-run businesses strong enough to run without their owner — and ready to stand up to the people who will one day verify every claim about them.

01Who you'd be working with

Benjamin Kobe

Before founding Provenance, Kobe was an income tax auditor with the Canada Revenue Agency — the job where you sit on the verifying side of the table and test whether a business's story matches its evidence. That is exactly what a buyer's diligence team will do to your business when you sell. The difference is that a buyer prices every gap they find.

That vantage point is the firm's method: we look at your business the way a buyer will, find what they would find, and then spend the months fixing it — before it costs you a multiple, an earn-out, or the deal itself.

02Why “Provenance”

Provenance is what makes something worth more.

In art and in property, provenance is the documented history that proves what an asset is and what it's worth. An asset without provenance sells at a discount — if it sells at all. A business is no different: the owner's word is not evidence, and buyers don't pay for stories they can't verify. Our work is building your company's provenance — the documented processes, clean numbers, and demonstrated independence that let a stranger trust what they're buying.

03How we work

Boundaries, in writing.

We stay in our lane

We don't do valuations — Chartered Business Valuators do. We don't broker deals, we don't give tax advice, and we don't practise law. When your situation needs those professionals, we say so in writing and refer you to people who do them well. Our job is the one none of them offer: the months of operational fixing in between.

Conservative numbers, always

Every estimate we put in front of you is rounded down, every assumption is printed beside it, and when your figure differs from ours, we use yours. If our work is worth doing, honest numbers will show it.

Fixed fees, no meters

Every engagement is a fixed fee or a flat retainer agreed before we start. You will never receive a surprise invoice from us, and we will never have an incentive to make the work take longer.
